Designer Interview

Sydney based jewellery designers & creators of
DOURY
Lei Wu & Amy Zhu

When did you know you wanted to be jewellery designers?
We both have graphic design backgrounds so the transition
seemed natural 2 years ago to start designing interesting jewellery

How would you describe your design style?
Our style is quite graphic and bold but at the same time very feminine

What creative people, things or materials inspire your designs?
A lot of our pieces are inspired by nature, such as florals,
leaves, birds and feathers

How does a typical day of work for you go?
Starts off with a coffee...
Then it could consist of drawing up new designs, foiling different
leathers or just making pieces!

What is your process when creating a new design?
It usually consists of a lot of doodling & sketches on paper.
Then getting them on to the computer to refine the patterns.

What would you like people to enjoy most about your designs?
That they are receiving a piece of jewellery that is distinctive &memorable
(and a little bit cheeky) as everyone thinks its metal before they touch it!

What makes your designs unique?
Our designs are large, extravagant and bold, yet are one of the
most comfortablepieces of jewellery you can own
due to the weightless nature

What is your advice to aspiring designers?
Do what you love and the rest will follow

What designs will you be selling at the Handmade September Market?
Hopefully we can bring all our gorgeous necklaces, cuffs and earrings!
Maybe even a custom piece for the special day!

Find the weightless wearable art with serious wow factor by Doury at the
Handmade Market Saturday the 29th & Sunday the 30th of September
