Sophie Cooper from Scoops Designs is one clever lady. She's a graphic designer with a penchant for perspex. She also uses mediums like wood, material and paper to create very cool jewelery, cushions, decals, gift cards and gift tags, and a gorgeous range of Christmas decorations. Sophie gives us the scoop (pardon the pun) on the woman behind the label.
What makes Scoops unique?
Scoops Designs is about my love for everything bright and colourful. I want to add colour and design into peoples lives whether that be through a brooch or a cute cushion or mirrors on the wall. I try to make everything affordable, well designed and individual.
Describe your style in three words: Cute, colourful and fun.
How did you come up with your illustrative style and characters?
I have been drawing since I was little, so a lot of these characters I have developed since childhood. I was a 70's child and grew up with Miffy and Marimekko so these have been huge influences in my life, especially colour wise. I don't think my style has changed since I was 3!
Where/how are your products made?
I have my own laser cutter so I design and cut all of the brooches, decorations and mirrors from my workshop in Sydney. My background is in graphic design, so I also design all my packaging which I get printed locally. I also do a lot of the sewing for the baby clothes and cushions.
What special things have you got in your range for Christmas?
There are lots of Christmas decorations: reindeer, doves, snowflakes and stars available in recycled wood and perspex, Christmas gift tags (in packs of 6 and 10) and Christmas Cards (individual and packs of 4). The Christmas decorations are great, reasonable priced gifts for all ages! There is also a new range of perspex and wood brooches, shatterproof mirrors and cushions.
