Designer Interview

Riverina based creators of
PADDOCK PIECES Des & Eileen Carroll

When did you begin sculpting?
It started as a hobby when we retired from farming.

How would you describe your design style?
Rustic and somewhat different garden art.

Who are the designers, things or materials that inspire you?
We develop our own designs.

How does a typical day of work go for you?
Des spends most of the day in the shed everyday & I help
out when I can and/or assistance is required, which
is most of the time!

What is your creative process when designing a new piece?
Trial and error as in all new designs until we are
satisfied with the finished product.

How would you like people to feel when they own your designs?
Hopefully, they choose our designs as an enhancement
to their homes and/or properties.

What makes your designs unique?
They are not entirely unique, however all our designs are
created from old & rusty disused wire etc from rural communities.

What is your advice to aspiring designers?
Patience, perseverance and a lot of time in the shed.

What will you be selling at the June Handmade Market?
We will have a variety of our designs on display and take
orders on the day for any other sizes or
materials customers require.

Designer Interview

Sydney based designer & creator of
creative fashion label EVYIE Ly Yin

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?
From a very, very young age. My mother was a dressmaker
with a huge love of textiles and I think I inherited this from her.

How would you describe your fashion design style?
Creative and contemporary.

Who are the designers, artists or creative people that inspire you?
I think Akira Isogawa is brilliant.

How does a typical day of work go for you?
Fairly fluid and unstructured with the occasional manic moment!

What is your creative process when designing a new piece?
I'd probably describe it as experimental.

How would you like women to feel when they wear your designs?
My goal is for women to feel really good about themselves.

What makes your designs unique?
I think there is a subtle beauty in the simplicity of the designs.

What is your advice to aspiring fashion designers?
Follow your heart, always.

What will you be selling at the June Handmade Market?
Keep an eye out for our new winter capes!

Designer Interview

Sydney based designers
BUMBLE BEESWAX CANDLES

When did you begin designing & creating candles?
It was around three years ago, it originally began as a hobby
making candles for ourselves, friends and families, after becoming
increasingly dissatisfied with the lack of truly natural
candles in the market-place.

How would you describe your designs?
Simple and natural.

Who are the designers, artists or creative people that inspire you?
We're inspired by artists and creative people who use sustainable
and eco-friendly materials to create beautiful pieces of work.

How does a typical day of work go for you?
We both have full time jobs in the corporate world which keeps
our days occupied. The evenings and weekends are
focused on producing candles.

What is your creative process when designing a new piece?
We like to balance beauty with functionality, we thoroughly test
our candle designs (and a huge amount of different wicks!)
before selling them. If they don't burn sufficiently we will never
sell them no matter how good they look!

How would you like people to feel when they use your designs?
Fantastic, knowing that they're burning a candle that not only looks
incredible but is good for their health and they're supporting
Aussie farmers and their communities!

What makes your designs unique?
Candles have been around for centuries, however we feel the fact
we use 100% pure Australian Beeswax with cotton wicks and
hand make all our candles with great care is unique.

What is your advice to aspiring designers?
My advice is to follow your passion, you never
know where it may lead.

What will you be selling at the June Handmade Market?
We will be selling everything, tea lights, votives, hand-rolled pillars
and our amazingly beautiful carved eggs, large beehives,
wedding cakes and Christmas trees.
